What this tool does
The model creates a baseline monthly budget for housing, food, transportation, utilities, healthcare, personal expenses, childcare, and savings. It adjusts categories using 2023 BEA metro regional price parities. A value of 100 represents the U.S. average price level for that year.
What it does not do
It does not calculate federal, state, or local income taxes; employer benefits; student-loan plans; housing availability; school quality; or the wage you can actually earn in a metro. Use the result as a screening number, then rebuild the budget using a real job offer and local quotes.
